Episode #236 Tuesday The Fix; Boise Speaker Meeting July 23, 2022
Being invited to speak in Boise was a wonderful opportunity. Part of my recovery is sharing my experience, strength, and hope. I am blessed to have been given this time. I hope you enjoy this talk. Please share it with someone you care for.
Episode #235 Tuesday the Fix; Characteristics of Addiction
When it comes to characteristics of addiction there are many aspects and facets that we need to look at to come to terms with our personal condition and move forward in our recovery. Without characterizing our addiction, we will not have a sufficient jumping off place to diagnose or treat the addiction. The same could be said for getting in your car and not having a destination in mind. We could drive all we want, and we would never get anywhere. Enjoy this podcast and please reach out to Alcoholics Anonymous of Greater Detroit in Ferndale MI for more information regarding the information that we discussed today. Blog #150 Step Twelve; Living in Spiritual Awakening
If you had told me five years ago that my life would look even more confounding on paper than it did currently, that I would be living with serenity and hope, my home would be a safe space for me, my children, and others, I would not have had the capacity to believe that. However, in fact, that is my story. In those 5 years, my son was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart condition. He has had four heart surgeries, three of them as an emergency. I am now a single parent to three teens. Their father is currently battling multiple cancers.
Blog #149 Shame is a Four-Letter Word
Shame is often negatively implied and applied so we tend to shy away from shame instead of understanding the positive impact and influence healthy shame can have
Episode #234 Tuesday the Fix; The Recovered Life
In the beginning I did everything I could not to drink or use. I also found it necessary to not engage in other behaviors that would trigger my drinking, which would trigger my using of drugs. This seems to be the battle in early recovery.
Episode #233 Tuesday the Fix; Control the Controllable
One of the most challenging things we would ever do in recovery is learn how to control in a healthy manner. One of the things that it says in the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous is “lack of control, that was our dilemma.”
Blog #148 Pursuing Power Daily; Step 11
How many of us forget to charge our phones or devices daily? We rely on them for everything from business to our most intimate relationships. We know they do not work if they are not powered up. And so, it is with us. Why would I not avail myself the help my Higher Power willingly offers me? The eleventh step in Al-anon says, “Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.” In that spirit, after working the previous ten steps, I seek daily to be powered up in Him.
Episode #232 Tuesday the Fix; Justin B of Reco12 and Me
Justin B of Reco12.com Speaker Meeting discuss the importance of recognizing various addictions and behavioral challenges, as we look to become as well as we possibly can become. So many of us have challenges beyond our core addiction. As we overcome that core addiction, we must address the other areas where Wellness is needed. If we do not do this, we will continue to be uncomfortable with who we are and that degree of being uncomfortable will lead to a relapse. We will only be uncomfortable for so long before we revert to the thing or behavior that medicates us against feeling badly. Check out today’s podcast and don’t forget to go check out Justin B at Reco12.com
Blog #147 The Musts of Life and Recovery
Once again, in many aspects of life musts are negotiable and other areas of life they are not. I could give other examples but let’s move on to recovery from addiction. This addiction can either be substance based and or behavioral.
Episode #231 Tuesday the Fix; Learning to Fly
When we first come into recovery we are infants who can barely roll over let alone crawl, stand, or walk. As we move forward in our recovery process and opportunity, we begin to grow a pair of wings which we will use as we learn how to fly. Some will grow a pair of wings and never use them. Others may limit themselves in their flight and or flying experience based on their fear or restrictions that others place on their flying. Learning to fly is about overcoming the perceived laws of aerodynamics and exploring new heights in our personal recovery. If you have not learned how to fly, I invite you to do so. Please let me know what I can do in this area. I wish you well and a happy soaring.
What Is Life Coaching?
Who is Coaching For?
It is my opinion that the one looking to be coached must be so convinced that their current situation is so injurious that if they don’t change their life would be irreparably harmed or they will die. Now that might seem drastic to some, but is it really? If you’re in a position where you would consider a coach, you would likely conclude that doing it by yourself with the methods that you’ve been trying are not effective and would be counterproductive to continue in that direction.
Life is meant to be enjoyed and cherished
There is nothing more discouraging than waking up each day dreading what the day holds. If that is you, when will you stop allowing the day to dictate that to you. Own the day from the outset and be the master of your own outcome.
We have been created to be a light to others
Stop allowing the external pressures to hold back your internal desire to grow and develop.
Create a legacy of happiness by living that legacy now.
Increase your value to others as you increase your value to you.
About Me
Recovery Guy was born out my own personal recovery. I had become a chronic alcoholic. I began choosing alcohol and drugs on a daily basis when I turned 18. I was so deeply trapped I also became a compulsive gambler, overeater, bulimic, and I was also addicted to pornography. I entered treatment in February 1986. After one brief relapse, I have been clean and sober since April 25, 1986. Along the way the overeating, bulimia, gambling and pornography have left my life. I have learned so much over the years. I went back to college at 39 years old to get my degree in Alcohol/Drugs Studies. I have worked in various treatment models. Along the way I became well. I went “From Broken To Whole.” It is my belief that everyone has this potential. I went from a feeling that if something didn’t change I was going to die to a person of accomplishment. I would love the opportunity to guide you as I was guided. I took advantage of the help offered to me. I have combined that information in proven ways to assist you. Thank you for your time.

Find Your Balance. Set Your Goals. Take A Challenge. Reward Yourself.
Understand that a life coach teaches you how to live productively one day at a time. We learn to overcome obstacles and other challenges that would have previously taken you off course and caused to slip back into previous behavior. A coach helps a person of addiction understand that true sobriety is more than the absence of the substance. Being sober is the beginning of sobriety, not sobriety itself. Whether it is overcoming a behavior that is not addiction related or behavior that is associated with alcohol or drugs the goal is the same. One must learn how to live a different way and because of enjoying that lifestyle the person would no longer want to engage in that negative behavior. It really is as simple as that. A coach is nothing more and nothing less than a conduit/guide for new way of living.
