Throughout my life, I heard many things regarding my potential. The word BUT was used as part of my description when I was mentioned. People would often say how wonderful they thought I could be, BUT….. There was always an exclusion of my potential. There was always a conjunction between how I wanted to be seen and how I was seen. This lasted until I first came into recovery when I was 32. It was then that I learned to Drop the But.
