I love breathing. Breathing is a non-voluntary muscle reaction. It is to the extent that I can only keep from naturally breathing for a period of time. once that time expires my body’s system takes over and I breathe. Without my permission. This is called Involuntary respiration. We especially notice it when we are sleeping.

As vital as meditation is it is, unfortunately, involuntary. there is no involuntary characteristic to it. there is no spiritual or otherwise fire alarm that automatically kicks in when we need it. meditation only occurs when I decide to meditate.

In a way, I wish I was forced to meditate. if I were then I could have averted countless bad decisions and many negative outcomes

Let’s look at the definition of meditation and then jump into an article. I came across this information by tony robbins. i have included the link to the information and am also using Mr. Robbins’ top 5 benefits of meditation.

meditation is the act of engaging in a mental exercise for the purpose of, reaching a heightened level of spiritual awareness.

TOP FIVE BENEFITS OF MEDITATION by Tony Robbins

  1. REDUCES STRESS

Meditation can be used to slow down and control breathing. if I can slow down/control my breathing then my heart rate slows, pulse, and anxiety follows. In that window of time, I am more able to view things based on how they are not on how I feel. this will have a direct effect on stress reduction.

  • PROMOTES PRODUCTIVITY

ONCE MY STRESS IS REDUCED I AM ABLE TO MORE FULLY FOCUS ON THE TASK OR SITUATION AT HAND. I CAN MORE FREELY OPERATE EFFICIENTLY AND WITHOUT DISTRACTION. OPERATING WITHIN THIS FRAME I CAN BE MORE CONFIDENT THAT THE DECISION(S) I MAKE ARE NOT EXECUTED PREMATURELY OR CLOUDED BY INDECISION AND EMOTION.

  • HELPS YOU STAY FOCUSED

JUST AS A BAD EYEGLASS OR CONTACT PRESCRIPTION CAN KEEP ME FROM BEING FOCUSED SO CAN A LACK OF REFLECTION THAT CAN COME FROM MEDITATION. iF ONE OF THE ATTRIBUTES OF MEDITATION IS “HEIGHTENED SPIRITUAL AWARENESS” THEN IT STANDS TO REason can more fully see things from a more balanced perspective. my focused perspective will almost always yield more fruit.

  • IMPROVES RELATIONSHIPS

People who operate from a position of high stress can be the tipping point for the stress of others. When one or more people in a relationship are under stress then there is an emotional break in the fellowship. once a break in the fellowship occurs it opens the door to mistrust and guarded responses. using the very definition of the word relationship it is necessary for us to “relate” to have a balanced interaction. relationships are best when all parties are on the same page at the same time.

  • REGULATES MOOD

not only is this true for us, but it is equally true for other(s). my mood, when not regulated has a tendency to be inconsistent. when I am not consistent I am not as capable of achieving balance in my life. my, I am out of balance I can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. even the most of tasks are a distraction. I become uncomfortable and tend to make others uncomfortable as well.

I am convinced that if we follow Mr. Robbins suggested 5 ways we can not help to be more successful in our life than we currently are.

Robert is the Recovery Guy. Getting clean and sober on April 25, 1986 has given me the insight and practical skill set to not only stay sober, but to also re-invent myself to the person I always wanted to become. Showing others how to do this is my life goal.
