To belive in oneself is the first step to positive change

One of the things that has been a constant in my personal recovery has been daily affirmations. I cannot stress enough how powerful and necessary affirming myself daily is. The longer I go in my recovery the truer the statement is. It is far too easy to look at the things that I have not accomplished or the things that I hope to be, but those are not the things that help encourage me. I am not trying to say that we need to ignore reminders that we need to do a better job in certain areas of our life.

What I am saying is the more I am affirming of the things that I have done will empower me to personal Encouragement to do the things I want to do. Often, I like to look at the definition of a word and in this case affirmation. The dictionary defines affirmation as “a positive assertion. “So often in life we are inundated with things that are negative and often those are things out of our control.

It is hard to have a positive assertion or a personal affirmation when we are inundated with so much negativity. The areas that we need to affirm are grounded in who we are, not in what we do or what is done to us. What we do in terms of our job or specific roles in our life will be best helped when we have a positive assertion of who we are.

The other aspect of this blog is that we are to do this daily. Just like we would take a daily vitamin, or we eat healthy daily, or we make sure that we get enough sleep daily. Daily affirmation helps give us the positive momentum to be successful daily.

Daily success is not necessarily based on the outcome what we are talking about here is having a regular positive assertion of who we are as a person. Most often this daily affirmation or positive assertion will lead us to better decision-making regarding people, places, and things with which we are associated.

Once this better decision making is activated life seems to have some added quality. People who have a daily affirmation with respect to who they are as a person make better decisions with respect to the essentials in their life.

Here are a few of the Daily Affirmations I make to help elevate my thinking and my view of me.

1.  Upon awakening I realize how blessed I am to be alive. Recognizing my opportunity to live is a gift inspires me to be grateful

2.  Understand that I have gifts and talents that I can appreciate and use to assist others find their way

3.  I am important to others. Other people in my life recognize me as someone who adds value to their life

4.  I can accomplish remarkable things and my only hindrance is whether or not I can accomplish great things

5.  Today is only one day in my journey of life. Not everything has to be accomplished in the now. “Stop and smell the roses.”

6.  Understand “I am somebody” and live consistently with that knowledge

7.  Daily Affirmation that my past is my past and who I am is not defined by what I did, but what I do is defined by who I am now.

Robert is the Recovery Guy. Getting clean and sober on April 25, 1986 has given me the insight and practical skill set to not only stay sober, but to also re-invent myself to the person I always wanted to become. Showing others how to do this is my life goal.
