Hello and welcome to the first podcast of 2021. I could not think of a better way to start the New Year then to discuss the 12 steps of recovery. Over the next 12 weeks we are going to be discussing one of the 12 steps and how it practically applies in our recovery journey. I understand that so many of us recover from multiple challenges while others are more individually specific. That being said, we can all use the steps as a means of taking control back the control of our lives. Having said that, I want you to understand that if there is any step you do as close to perfection as possible, it is step one. Let me explain.
Step one is so vital to the next 11 steps. A person who does not fully concede to their innermost self that they have an addiction from which they need to recover from will likely never did the remaining steps to achieve the life transformation that Recovery requires. Anything short of admitting 100% defeat will most often cause a person to relapse.
The main components of Step 1 are Powerless and Unmanageable.
Powerless means unable to produce an effect: lacking power to act;
helpless.
Unmanageable means difficult or impossible to control, use, or manipulate.
Until we are honest enough to fully admit to ourselves that this is true for us we stand little to no chance of recovering.
You may disagree, but you are likely wrong.
