The late great Zig Ziglar said, “If you do what you’re supposed to do when you were supposed to do it, there will come a time when you can do what you want to do when you want to do it.” This quote has lived with me since 1997. It has served as a means for me to dig deeper into the things that I wanted to enjoy later in life. It also held me accountable for the things I was doing in my current life to help ensure that they would come true in the latter part of my life. At the time of this podcast, I have found this to be exactly true. As I consider my life as it is today and all the things that I am enjoying it is because I was introduced to this life challenge.

  1. Determine where you want to be in the last 25 years of your life
  2. Examine self to determine if your current life choices are on the path to get you where you want to end up
  3. Make sure your significant other(s) are on board with your destination
  4. Ignore life’s distractions as exactly that
  5. Celebrate milestones
  6. Adjust goals as needed to accommodate life changes
  7. Remove negative people’s influence from your life
  8. Distinguish working smart from working hard
  9. Don’t mistake activity for accomplishment
  10. Don’t be discouraged by any setbacks
  11. Keep your eye on the prize
  12. Remind yourself that the destination is worth the journey

Robert is the Recovery Guy. Getting clean and sober on April 25, 1986 has given me the insight and practical skill set to not only stay sober, but to also re-invent myself to the person I always wanted to become. Showing others how to do this is my life goal.
