On page 35 of the 12 and 12 of Alcoholics Anonymous it states “When it comes to ego deflation, few steps are harder to take than Five. But scarcely any step is more necessary to long time sobriety and peace of mind than this one. “

Step is defined as a movement made by lifting the foot and setting it down again in a new position, accompanied by a shifting of the weight of the body in the direction of the new position.

Step Five is “Admitted to God to ourselves and another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.”

Admitted is a verb and means to allow to enter; grant or afford entrance.

Granting someone entrance into my life was so refreshing. Step 5 is the first step that directly involves another person. This is so important because I am becoming more accountable in a tangible sense. My active addiction was brought on and deepened by my lack of accountability. The first four steps do not require accountability the way step five does.

Accountability is vital for recovery to take place and take hold.

Robert is the Recovery Guy. Getting clean and sober on April 25, 1986 has given me the insight and practical skill set to not only stay sober, but to also re-invent myself to the person I always wanted to become. Showing others how to do this is my life goal.
