As so many of us know, recovery is being caught up in a miracle. A miracle is simply defined as an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is described to a supernatural cause. I think that defines our recovery perfectly. We are amid a miracle. We are a people, who without intervention of a supernatural or spiritual nature, would be dead. Never underestimate how fortunate we are to consider ourselves in recovery and or recovered. As the definition continues to point out it is “a wonder and something to marvel at“. Today I want to speak to you about what happens to us as a result of that miracle. To be redeemed, according to dictionary.com, is the act of redeeming or atoning for a fault or mistake or the state of being redeemed. It also means deliverance or rescue. Not only Are we redeemed from what has happened, but we are redeemed as to what did not or could occur. When I reflect upon my gratitude I do so with an understanding Of but did not occur in my life. How about you? What is some of the things that never occurred to you as it occurred in others because of the surrounding circumstances of your recovery.
As things I was redeemed from include,
- I did not die on my way to recovery.
- I never killed who I call “the Jones family of five“.
- I did not suffer irreparable harm mentally or physically.
- I did not end up with a prison record that would follow me the rest of my life.
- I did not destroy everything beyond restoration.
- I do not live in regret due to lack of closure for personal loss.
These are just some of the things that I was rescued from that had not occurred. These things could easily be “yets”. I do not stay in recovery to prevent these things from happening. I stay in recovery for all the wonderful things that have happened, but I understand that the things that did not occur could occur. For that I am incredibly grateful.
