steps of change

Steps of Change. In most aspects of life long lasting change requires some type of plan. Rarely do we just stumble across success. Change is a process not an event. We may experience short-term success going through life, willie nillie. We might stumble across some external fix that gives us temporary relief. True Change requires Steps to be followed in the order they were designed to work. If we become students of these steps, then successful/lifelong change is likely to occur.

  1. WE MUST CHANGE OUR WAY OF THINKING. Our best thinking got us to this negative position.
  2. We must realize that each morning, when we wake, we are a potential liability to yourself.
  3. We resolve that we will practice healthy choices 24 hours of that day.
  4. We must study and practice our program of recovery completely, not like a buffet.
  5. Attend a regular support meeting each day/week without fail.
  6. Firmly believe that by practicing daily principles faithfully each day, we will achieve wellness.
  7. Believe that we can be free from our destructive behavior.
  8. Contact another member BEFORE engaging in negative behavior not AFTER. Tell them what bothers you-talk it over freely.
  9. Work the Program for ourselves alone-NOT for our wife, children, friends or for our job.
  10. Be absolutely honest and sincere.
  11. Be fully open minded-no mental reservations.
  12. Be fully willing to work the Program. Nothing good in life comes without work.

When we accept our need to become well and want to incorporate the Steps to Change we will grow and become the best possible version of ourselves.

Robert is the Recovery Guy. Getting clean and sober on April 25, 1986 has given me the insight and practical skill set to not only stay sober, but to also re-invent myself to the person I always wanted to become. Showing others how to do this is my life goal.
